In a recent enforcement operation, the Police have apprehended a 55-year-old man suspected of engaging in the online sale of counterfeit products. The arrest followed operations conducted by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department at Toh Guan Road East on February 20 and 22, 2024.
During the operation, law enforcement seized over 25,000 items including perfume bottles, candles, and diffusers, all suspected of infringing trademarks. The estimated street value of the seized goods exceeds $2,000,000. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
The Trade Marks Act 1998 stipulates severe penalties for the possession of goods with falsely applied trademarks for trading purposes. Convictions under this act can lead to fines of up to $100,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.
Emphasizing their commitment to combating intellectual property rights infringement, the Police remind the public of the gravity of distributing and selling counterfeit goods. They underscore that such activities are serious offenses and vow to take stringent measures against perpetrators who profit unlawfully, ultimately safeguarding both legitimate businesses and consumers.
